1923 Jaeger Machine Company
Model FW, 3 Horsepower

The Jaeger Machine Company began manufacturing cement mixers about 1920, but never manufactured their own engines. This particular engine was manufactured for Jaeger by the Hercules Gas Engine Company. The model FW is the first of the Hercules engines to use a spark plug and Wico magneto. Previous models all had low tension ignition. Hercules built the FW from 1923 to 1924, and produced about 25,000 units.

As can be seen in the "before" photo, our engine was in rough shape when we got it. It was coated in concrete and grease, but it wasn't stuck, and it was only missing a few minor parts. We sandblasted everything down to bare metal, and primed everything with PPG DP40. DP40 is an epoxy primer that fills all the imperfections of the cast iron. The paint is PPG Delstar. Delstar gives an attractive and durable finish. Pinstriping was done with a Beugler striping tool and One-Shot sign paint. With the Beugler tool, an amateur can produce nice results with only a little practice.
