This engine was built by the Victory Motor Company in Niles, California. At the Niles plant, there were about 300 engines built between 1914 and 1924. The sizes ranged from a single cylinder, eight horsepower engine, to a four cylinder, one hundred horsepower engine. All Victory engines were of a vertical, sideshaft design.
The Victory Oil Motor is a two-cycle throttle governed engine. The throttle is governed by means of flyballs that run off of the sideshaft. The Bosch magneto also runs off of the sideshaft. The Victory was designed to run on fuel oil, which produces more power and is more economical than gasoline.
Of the 300 engines built in the Niles facility, there have been about ten accounted for. There is only one other twenty horse engine known to exist. This particular engine originally ran an irrigation pump in Central California. It's now set up with a conical cooler and small water pump.
This engine is mounted permantenty on a dual, drop axle trailer to ease showing and transport. The trailer was built specifically for this engine, and has outriggers for stabilization.
